Wounded Warrior Program Expedited Service: Helping Members of the Military Gain Social Security Benefits More Quickly

Applying for Social Security Disability (SSDI) benefits is a long and tedious process. It takes weeks for your initial application to be approved, and up to 80% of these are rejected! Most often, the denials are for incomplete work or medical records.

If your application is denied, you can apply for Reconsideration which should take about 60 days. If your application is again denied, you can appeal this decision and request a hearing in front of an Administrative Law Judge. But this entails quite a long waiting period – typically in the downtown Los Angeles Social Security office, the wait for a hearing can be as long as 16 months!

Expedited Process Available for Wounded Warriors

However, if you are a military service member, your application may be eligible for expedited processing which can really speed up your approval.

The Wounded Warrior expedited process applies to those military service members who became disabled while on active military service on or after October 1, 2001. Generally, your SSDI application will be processed much faster.

To speed up your decision as an eligible Wounded Warrior, alert the Social Security Administration as to your status when you first apply. Let them know that your disability occurred while you were on active military duty. In addition to having the necessary information on your medical condition, doctors, and treatments, be sure to provide the address of the military site where your records are kept.

When the Social Security Administration receives your SSDI application, including claims filed online, they will expedite it through all the processing phases.
